…studied composition under John Lambert at the Royal College of Music. He has lived in Holland and Germany and has written operas, musicals and a radio music-drama - 'THE ONE ALONE' – with Iris Murdoch as well as film scores, ballets and concert music. Musical director and/or arranger-orchestrator on many stage shows and films (including 'The Wicker Man'-1973), he won the British Clavichord Society Composition Competition in 2004 (Van Assendelft’s Vermeer), was shortlisted for a 2005 British Composer Award (same piece), winning in the chamber category in 2006 with the harp trio ‘Azaleas’. 'Die Flimmerkiste' - a portrait CD - is on NMC, and his 'Songs Of Sadness And Piety' on Christian Forshaw’s ‘Renouncement’ (Integra-ING 1001). Gary also teaches composition at the Royal Academy of Music. He was the first Head of Music at LIPA and spent four years as Director of Music at the London School Of Contemporary Dance.
